Opensignal, a leading mobile network analytics company, has announced the launch of the Global Network Excellence Index, a groundbreaking new metric designed to help mobile network operators, regulators, and policymakers assess and compare the quality of network infrastructure in their countries against others around the world.

As Opensignal emphasizes, with mobile networks continuously reshaping the way people work, communicate, and access essential services worldwide, it has become crucial for network operators, regulators, and policymakers to have an effective way to evaluate the mobile experience to better manage network investments.

Opensignal observed that similar countries could experience very different levels of network excellence depending on regulatory policies and governmental actions.

The Global Network Excellence Index from Opensignal provides a simple and comprehensive way for regulators to understand these differences, giving them a broad view of their country’s network capabilities. This insight enables them to identify areas where they may be lagging behind their peers and where to focus their efforts.

According to the new Global Network Excellence Index by Opensignal, Egypt ranked 40th in the availability of 4G/5G networks, a measure of how frequently users connect to modern networks. In terms of excellent consistency quality, Egypt ranked 35th, evaluating the reliability of networks in supporting demanding applications like video streaming, video calls, and gaming, ensuring a smooth user experience. Egypt also ranked 51st in 4G download speed.

On this occasion, Shawn Heidel, President, Network Experience at Opensignal, said, “The Global Network Excellence Index is simple, transparent, and comprehensive. Regulators can use it to evaluate the quality of their country’s network infrastructure, while policymakers can quickly identify benchmark countries for study. Most importantly, the index highlights the overall customer experience by taking a range of key indicators into account, without overemphasizing speed.”

The Global Network Excellence Index by Opensignal relies on the company’s extensive proprietary data to provide a country-level ranking of network excellence. It offers a realistic assessment based on direct measurements of user experience, evaluating countries across three key pillars:

    – 4G/5G Availability: This metric measures how frequently users connect to networks, revealing coverage gaps that impact productivity, education, and essential services.

    – 4G/5G Download Speed: Download speed is a strong indicator of the network’s ability to support future demand, reflecting current performance and long-term infrastructure investment.

    – Excellent Consistency Quality (ECQ): This measures the reliability of networks in supporting resource-intensive applications like video streaming, video calls, and gaming, ensuring a smooth user experience.

As Opensignal highlights, while network coverage is essential to ensure consumer connectivity, the biggest challenge for networks is the ability of users to consistently complete tasks online.
