Google Rolls Out Screen Sharing, Camera Features For Gemini Live With Project Astra

Google has officially kicked off the rollout of its Project Astra-powered features for Gemini Live, introducing camera and screen sharing capabilities for users. The update, first teased at Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this month, is now making its way to select Android devices, although full availability is still ramping up.

One Android user has already reported seeing the new “Share screen with Live” button in the Gemini interface, located above the “Ask about screen” button. Users can now share their entire screen, although single app sharing remains unavailable. Additionally, the update introduces real-time camera functionality, allowing users to start a video stream and interact with the world in a more immersive way. A new button in the bottom-right corner enables users to switch to their front-facing camera for video interactions.

While the rollout is in progress, it’s not yet available on all devices. The feature was first spotted on a Xiaomi phone, with the user also being a Google One subscriber. Alongside this update, Gemini Live introduces a more compact fullscreen interface and a phone-call-style notification system, but these features are still in the early stages of deployment.

This new functionality is part of Google’s broader plan to integrate Project Astra into Gemini Advanced, which is available to users with an AI Premium subscription ($19.99 per month). As of now, the Astra features are available on Android devices, with Google initially prioritizing Pixel and Galaxy S25 users for early access. However, there are no technical restrictions preventing Astra from being made available on other devices, such as iPhones. Google has yet to confirm when or if support for iOS will be expanded, and features like Talk Live, which allows sharing photos, files, and YouTube videos, are not yet available on iOS.

The gradual rollout is expected to continue over the coming weeks, bringing Gemini Live’s advanced features to a broader range of users.
