Marking a decade since the launch of SmartThings, The world’s leading platform for smart home technologies, Mr. Ahmed Gaafar, Chief Marketing Officer at Samsung Electronics Egypt, highlighted the platform’s remarkable developments over the past ten years. He also shed light on its pivotal role in advancing the smart home concept and the innovations that have enhanced user experiences worldwide.

Since its inception in 2013, SmartThings has redefined smart homes by adopting cutting-edge technologies, most notably integrating with IoT Cloud solutions and connecting seamlessly with Bixby, Samsung’s intelligent assistant, delivering an advanced and effortless control experience for users. The platform has seen significant milestones, including the launches of versions 1.0 and 2.0, the expansion of its services to encompass advanced smart home applications, and the release of the Galaxy SmartTag, which enhanced smart tracking capabilities.

Today, SmartThings serves over 350 million users globally, supported by more than 340 brands, cementing its position as a global leader in smart home technologies. The platform has also introduced innovative business solutions (B2B) that have boosted productivity and promoted sustainability. Locally, Egypt boasts the largest user base of SmartThings in the Arab world and North Africa, with 3.5 million users. This number is expected to grow to 4.3 million by the end of 2024, marking an annual growth rate exceeding 60%.

The platform has been awarded the Matter 1.0 certification in addition to the ISO 27001 certification, underscoring Samsung’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions aligned with the highest global standards of security and quality. Furthermore, SmartThings earned the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI), confirming its adherence to rigorous standards that include 123 precise criteria covering information security policies and access controls for digital assets. This certification stands as a global assurance of the platform’s ability to safeguard data and ensure its integrity, reinforcing user and partner trust while affirming Samsung’s dedication to providing a secure and intelligent connectivity experience.

As it celebrates a decade of innovation, SmartThings continues to lead the smart home market with aspirations for an even more advanced and innovative future. The platform remains committed to empowering users and businesses with integrated and secure solutions, while Samsung invests in artificial intelligence technologies and expands its strategic partnerships to support sustainable energy solutions. Simultaneously, the company is working on developing advanced control centers tailored to family needs, enhancing user experiences with smart and interconnected technologies.
